BlackNotes' debut CD, entitled "Miracle In Progress," represents
BlackNotes' pioneering of a new musical form called SWARM (Spoken
Word, African Rhythms, Melodies), which is intended to be both elevating
and entertaining. The positive feedback from those who have listened
to the CD has been tremendous, and this includes the young and not-so-young,
the business professional, the "Afrocentric," and the folks "in
the 'hood." "Miracle In Progress" features soulful singing, insightfully
positive poetry & rap, funky basslines, spicy West African drumming,
and jazzy horns, producing a dynamically unique sound and concept
that many have fallen in love with.
"Miracle
In Progress" (the CD) contains:
 |
The golden
soulful voice of lead singer Ayanna Gregory and the beautiful
harmonies of vocalists Yvette Benjamin (Nneke Chinyere) and
Aisha Jackson; |
 |
The spicy
West African drum rhythms and percussion solos of Mahiri-Fadjimba
Keita, Kweku Akoto, and Lasana |
 |
The funky
basslines of bass guitarist Kwesi Brown |
 |
The jazzy
melodies and soulful solos of saxophonist / flutist Kamau Lumumba;
|
 |
The bluesy
harmonica and synchronous percussion work of Morton Brooks;
|
 |
The light-dancing
chords and accents of keyboard player Pierre; and |
 |
The creatively insightful
poetic verses of Lasana, Jali-D, Joy Jones, Nkechi Taifa and
Brother Yao. |
The CD
title, "Miracle In Progress," not only refers to the theme of the
title track--childbirth / the Black family--but also refers to the
fact that, given our phenomenally challenging history in America,
African-Americans are a miracle in progress.
BlackNotes is
a miracle in progress! Check out the CD, and you'll agree.
